The best paper planes for stunts and speed

There are four paper planes to choose from...

We've searched high and low for the best paper planes and taken the advice of aerospace vehicle design expert Dr Yicheng Sun to find these four easy to learn paper planes. These incredible little planes will have you feeling like an ace pilot with designs that are built for speed, distance and stunts!

Have a go at making all four of them, add some creative flair and decoration to them if you like. Make sure you let us know which was your favourite to make, and how well it flew for you!

The Tumbling Wing: An amazing paper plane that can fly almost forever! ✨

This nifty little paper plane doesn't look like a typical design with its interesting flattened out S shape, but we promise it can fly!

Top Tip: You'll need to use a very light piece of paper. We used a page from a notepad, but a page from a magazine or newspaper should work too!

Cut a strip of your very light paper length ways, and about 2 inches wide.

Make sure you have help from a grown-up when handling scissors!

To launch this plane, hold it sideways and pinch it in the middle, then simply drop it. You can then follow it and "push" it with a large piece of card.
It'll take some practice to find the sweet spot to keep the tumble wing floating!

Check out our studio guest Dr Yicheng Sun demonstrating how it works below!

The Tube Wing: The ultimate paper plane to show off your skills 🙌

Be prepared to be blown away by this small aeronautical wonder!

Follow our super simple video guide on how to make this tube shaped paper plane, all it takes is a few simple folds.

Top tip: Once you’ve folded your plane and you're ready to begin curling it around itself, rub your plane length ways against a hard corner like a table to help you get a smoother curve.

To launch this plane, you just have to throw it forwards!
Try to add a little rotation on your throw to help your Tube Wing fly even further. 💨

The Superman: The best paper plane for long distance ✈️

It's time for the legendary and previous world record breaking 'Superman' paper plane. It's the perfect paper plane for a long distance flight.

Use our easy to follow tutorial on how to make this paper plane with just an A4 piece of paper and a few simple folds.
To launch this plane, you simply have to throw it. No special technique required!

Top Tip: You can experiment with how far up or down you fold the wings in this design to improve its distance or stunt capabilities!

The Bat Plane: The best paper plane for stunts (and style!) 🦇

Are you ready for a bigger challenge? Here's our trickiest paper plane, known as The Bat Plane. 🦇

This paper plane is perfect for stunts and speed, and it'll look super stylish as it flies. If you get the technique and the folds just right, you might notice that this paper plane can even slightly flap its wings during flight. It's just like a bat!

Follow the video carefully, and have a go at making this detailed and exciting paper plane.

Have a go, make sure to show us your best planes!

Which did you find easiest to fold and make? Did any of yours fly really, really far? Maybe you managed to make a Tumble Wing that stayed in the air for a whole minute!
