27 juillet 2024I absolutely adore it. It's solid, feels secure, and has big enough proportions on the poles to look traditional as well. It also has more detail than other models I looked at and it's well worth the money for the extra sturdiness and aesthetic details.
Only thing I would change at all is for the included shade kit to be a little darker (block a bit more sun), but it does the job reasonably well and you can always add another cover if you want.
Assembly wasn't too bad. It was delivered on an extra long pallet that had four big boxes on it. They're numbered. There's a detailed instruction booklet and hardware that is well marked. Each piece is marked on a plastic bag around it. There's a lot of hardware, (which scared me a little at first), but it's not nearly as difficult as it looks when you open the package!
40-something female assembled about 70% of it myself (putting together all the pieces on the ground so they were ready to be attached). (Lots of things come in three sections that go together to make the final pieces to assemble.) A neighbor helped me do the last 30%. The instructions list which steps need more than one person - and the vast majority of this doesn't! Instructions are clear and easy to follow. By the time we finished it, neighbor's wife wants one too. When I shared the price, everyone agreed it was great quality for really good value.
Absolutely love it.
Awesome structure!

25 juin 2024Bought this after much research and debate. Price seemed too good to be true. Item showed up as scheduled and delivery was seamless. Comes in 4 boxes on a pallet which are a little heavy but I was able to slide one off of the other with some effort. Directions are simple and easy to follow. I assembled the unit by myself (with a little help from my wife on some of the awkward parts). Directions said 2 men - 10 hours, I did it in about 24 hours total, over about 4 days due to some family obligations. I differed from the directions in that I assembled all of the components at one time and staged them, rather than assembling them at each stage. This way when I was in full assembly mode, I could just grab the components and put them on. I'm 66 years old, in fair shape and was able to put it together with no issues. Note: They provide all of the tools that you will need.... however, do yourself a favor and get a GOOD T-30 bit for your screwdriver, and a GOOD T-30 allen wrench. The ones that they send won't hold up as there are about 300 screws. Follow the direction and you'll be fine. Make sure that it is anchored securely. Mine is mounted to our composite deck, I drilled through the feet and put a 3/4" plywood plate under the decking, bolted it through the deck and the plate using 5/16" bolts and it's rock solid. Another note: the flat washers are only painted on one side to match the color of the pergola..... get someone to assemble each one correctly (painted side up) ... it's the most tedious part LOL

3 avril 2023After restaining a fence, we knew we wanted something maintenance free. Enter the 12x10 Ashford steel Traditional pergola!! We bought two of them and put them right next to each other on our concrete patio, our guest, are blown away by the look, and we are blown away by the quality! As a tall guy 6'3" I thought there may not be enough space under the pergolas without feeling cramped, WRONG! There is loads of headroom, and the open perling makes it feel airy. In my opinion you need the sail cloth shade, when we purchased ours it didn't come with it (newer SKUs seem to come with them now) and we purchased ours from a local vendor. For two we needed 21'x9" and we used a large PVC pipe as a roller system across the too, and secured it with bungee balls.
These things are sturdy!! We regularly seem sustained winds of 35+, and often get gust in excess of 80 (blowing down our fence) and thus things takes it like a champ. There is no wobble, no cheap feeling, and they look great! We typically don't like the industrial look of metal so this traditional design was perfect! On a solo assembly it took me about 4.5 hours to do each using the built app (which is super awesome), but I did need a little help getting everything hoisted up and ensuring it was plumb and square. There aren't a lot of extra parts but it did come with everything needed.
If you're thinking of buying this, don't think, get it now! If we had more space we'd buy more, under the first one we fit a 8' couch, 6' couch, 2 full sized 30 in chairs and ottomans, and a propae fire pit without feeling crowded. Under the other we have a 6 place dining set, which I think could be 10 without feeling too cramped. All in all these things rock and I cannot recommend them enough. They do get somewhat warm surfaces on a 105+ degree day, but it's not dangerous in my opinion, just one of those things you remember it's metal real quick. Anyways get these things they're awesome!

2 avril 2023We had a spectacular Blue Spruce tree that was 30 feet tall and as wide. It was over 50 years old and had been the Christmas tree of the little boy who lived in our house before we bought it. We loved it, but it became ill and we were treating it for its sickness. Sadly it was very weak, but a wonderful friend.
Fast forward to a horrific wind storm one evening that blew across our creek and the next morning we came out to find our friend had blown over and its root ball had uprooted. It was a mess, but because we took such good care of it, our "friend" did not do damage to our fence, our pool or our patio. It just sighed and fell over.
We always wanted a pergola in our yard, but we had no place to put one because of our tree. After we said goodbye to the remains of our Spruce, I immediately went to a folder I had saved for years from Backyard Discovery. Inside the folder was the perfect pergola and my husband agreed.
Our handyman and a helper were so impressed when they opened the box and began to unpack the components of the pergola. They were amazed at how well it was made and the careful packaging of the parts. Within two days they had our fabulous new pergola erected and it is absolutely gorgeous. We are so anxious for our garden surrounding it to bloom as it will be a picturesque spot to sit and overlook our pool.
Everyone tells us the location was destined to have a pergola and it is a spectacular one. The next step is to have our electrician install lights so our garden spot will be complete.
We can't say enough about Backyard Discovery, the quality of our pergola and the ease with which it can be installed. It is a lemonade ending to a lemon of a story and we know our Blue Spruce is looking down and telling us how happy it is we chose a pergola as a replacement! Thank you Backyard Discovery.
