Recently bought the black shoes and while looking at them I feel it covers a lot in what a person may look for in a decent black dress shoe, nothing too exotic or an odd design, a classic look! And with a brand name like Cole Haan, you can expect a very high price point made with good quality.

For me it's the details and this particular shoe lacks in the details. You can feel the quality and smell it too, but it lacks comfort. The shoe has some weight to it and while a good shoe leather should have some (I'm thinking boots) a dress shoe shouldn't weigh you down. Especially if you plan on wearing them all day at work or for a few hours at an event. You want it to be light and comfortable. The heel sole is great, has some cushion to it, but it feels like they forgot to implement that same protocol throughout the whole shoe. It definitely lacks that same feeling at the ball of the foot, which I think is as important. Then there's the cut of the shoe by the ankles. A classic shoe design should not have any padding around the ankle otherwise it changes the whole style, but it needs to take into consideration a low cut otherwise ankles will be chafing. And this shoe, for me, was chafing.

I would rate this shoe slightly above average, 3.5, but not good. If you're looking for mid black dress shoes and you can purchase them at a decent price (sales time or using coupons) then go for it. I have no doubt these shoes durability will be long lasting but if comfort is a very big thing for you then I think you can easily find other brands that can meet or exceed all expectations (i.e. Alfani or Calvin Klein) at reasonable or even better prices.

The sole is glued on and has decorative stitching. It absolutely is not a sole make of “leather and man made material”. The stitching on the bottom is decorative and entire sole and heal are one pice. I cannot speak about durability and I’m sure this show is fine for most but the shoe delivered to me is not as it was described. Only leather is on the upper. The sole material suggests that it may be comfortable but ware quickly. I don’t know if Cole Haan falsely describes this show or if that’s a nordstromrack mislabeling.

This is my third pair of Cole Haan oxfords and I must say that I'm a little disappointed in this time around. After a few wears as I noticed that the inside of the shoe is all lining material and no longer leather, also the sole is complete rubber and not a mix of leather and rubber. My preference is the partial leather sole with stitching and rubber, as it gives the shoe a little more style, elegance and functional grip for everyday wear at a reasonable price, instead of looking like a man made plastic shoe. If you are looking for average shoe I guess this is it, but I'm a little disappointed as Cole Haan was always my go to shoe for style and quality.

I bought these as a gift for my husband, and when I received them in the mail, one shoe looked so clearly worn with creases and scuffs on it. I’m not talking about someone just trying it on, it literally looked like someone had been wearing it for a month straight. While the other shoe was in great condition, I couldn’t give these away because of how the other one looked. And the fact that I paid over $140 for these, I can’t believe one of the employees thought it was okay to put in a used shoe. Not trying to be a Karen, but if I wanted a used pair of shoes, I would’ve gone to a second-hand store. It’s a shame because the new pair I ordered won’t be here in time for Christmas…
