Angelica Ross has had quite an eventful week. After sharing a couple stories on social media that alleged that her American Horror Story: 1984 costar Emma Roberts once made transphobic remarks at her expense, Ross thanked Roberts on social media for calling and apologizing.

“Thank you @RobertsEmma for calling and apologizing, recognizing your behavior was not that of an ally,” tweeted Ross. “I will leave the line open to follow up on your desire to do better and support social justice causes with your platform.”

On Tuesday, Ross unleashed a series of tweets criticizing their AHS showrunner, creator, and boss, Ryan Murphy, claiming that the mega-producer “left [her] on read” regarding a potential AHS season starring four Black actresses, including Ross. At the end of her Twitter screed, Ross teased that she would also detail “the transphobic remarks my co-star said to my face, and the racism I complained about on set that they said was ‘free speech.’”

Eventually, Ross went live on Instagram to share her experience of transphobia from Roberts on the set of American Horror Story: 1984. In the anecdote, Ross claims that while they were filming a scene together, Roberts made a transphobic remark directed at her, allegedly implying that there was only one woman present on set at that time. “My blood is boiling. Boiling,” said Ross. “I’m like, ‘If I say something, it’s going to be me that’s the problem. And I know this because there was someone who spoke up about what she was doing, and they got repercussions from it. Not her. They did.”

In another series of tweets, Ross said that it took her “about a year and some months to process all of this so that I could speak without crying or getting too angry. Because we know how y’all respond to the ‘angry Black woman.’” She pointed to Hulu’s new horror-comedy series The Other Black Girl and the novel it’s based on by Zakiya Dalila Harris for inspiring her to speak her truth.

On Wednesday, Ross tweeted another story accusing the Scream Queens star of being transphobic on the set of AHS: 1984. “We’re all sitting around & I’m copying Cody’s accent…. Emma then copies my voice & laugh and drops it several octaves. I was SHOOK,” tweeted Ross. “She read me for blood with my own words. Of course I was self-conscious about my voice on set after that.” She then made it explicitly clear that she did not want her followers to threaten violence against Roberts, writing, “I appreciate the support but please do not joke about violence towards Emma. Joke about her being held accountable. Now THATs funny.”

A few hours later, Ross tweeted that Roberts had called her to apologize for her behavior on set.

Ross and Roberts starred together in American Horror Story: 1984 in 2019. That season of the anthology series focused on the reopening of a summer camp, Camp Redwood, 14 years after a massacre took place on site. Roberts starred in the series as Brooke Thompson, a counselor at the camp, while Ross starred as Donna Chambers, a serial-killer-obsessed psychologist. The role marked Ross’s second series-regular role, after her turn as Candy Ferocity in Pose, making her the first trans actress to ever land two series-regular roles on television. Roberts can next be seen starring in another season of the anthology series American Horror Story: Delicate opposite Kim Kardashian.

Roberts has not publicly commented on the allegations at this time. Vanity Fair reached out to both Ross and Roberts for comment.
